Maharashtra Mahila Parishad is an Organisation working in the field of women empowerment is an outcome of Women’s movement of the 1990s. At that times, this movement was divided in different ideologies. In India also, this movement was fragmented.  In 1994, Maharashtra government has come up with the Policy for women. Some of the organisation took this policy hand to hand but many organisation criticise this at the execution level. One such organisation was Aanganwadi worker union who was also fighting to ensure the rights of Aanganwadi workers through this policy. Maharashtra Mahila Parishad was founded by the leaders of that movement to ensure the rights of women of marginalised section of the society at the every level of society. It was founded by the Advocate Bharti Sharma with two other members
Maharashtra Mahila Parishad was actively working in direction of women empowerment since 1990 but it got affiliation as NGO in 1996. In starting period, it was financially supported by the Red Union who had provided land for the office of an NGO. Apart from this other financial needs were met by the crowd funding and funds by the political parties. Other organisation named “Navjeevan Samiti” had also supported Maharashtra Mahila Parishad for first 10 years.

Maharashtra Mahila Parishad is Umbrella organisation under which it has three main departments to deal with the various problems oriented to women.

Mumbra is not placed in proper Mumbai, it resides in outskirts of Mumbai. Most of the people living in Mumbra region are the migrant and belongs to the poor section of the society who was settled here during communal riots between Hindu and Muslim. So, there is always the danger of communal tension in this area. So, Maharashtra Mahila Parishad is playing a vital role to bring harmony in this environment of communal tension. Earlier there were no SHG from the muslim community but now women from the muslim community are also actively participating in the formation of SHGs. Women from both the communities are coming together on the same platform discussing and sharing their issues and happiness. Talking from the perspective of women, earlier women were struggling for their voice in the household but this platform is giving them the confidence to have say in their houses. As women are able to take loans for the family in needed situation, she is gaining importance in decision-making process of the family.

There are many obstacles faced by the organisation at the society level and also at the execution level.
  • ·   One of the major problems is to maintain harmony and bring these people from the different community at the same platform because their many prejudices attached to the every community which results in hatred towards each other.
  • ·   Sometimes family does not support women going in the Organisation and participating in campaign and discussion.
  • ·     As a result of discussion in the organisation when women try to get their rights in the household, family restrict her from going to the organisation.

Pardhi Tribe in Tuljapur (India)

“Why you have come to us ? Many people has come and gone but nobody have sympathy for us.” It was welcome note for me by them. They consider rest of the society as evil to them and for that they have valid reason also which we may not deny. From 2 to 3 Kms from Tuljapur town, there is place named Tuljapur(Khurd) and at the outermost area of Tuljapur (khurd) this Pardhi people lives. There are 40 households living over there with population of 150 people. They are living on land of government from last 20 years and asking government to register that land on their names but no body is listening to them. Talking about history, They were marked as CRMINAL TRIBE. This sin is still attached with them. But this title was given to them by britishers to justify their invasion in Pardhi’s Forest. 20 Important Things that the Social Worker should have before leaving for field

It can be tough for social worker in India for surviving on field work without proper preparation. Here the preparation means that what things that you should be equipped before leaving your hostel. The first thing in our college orientation was for keeping minimum luggage   preferably  a rack sack or small hand bag.  However after being on field for several days and times, I have come across a list of things that will make less things to be carried for field work in India. So let’s begin with bedding stuff- it is most important because you have to have a good sleep and be fresh the next day for some strenuous work. I will suggest to buy a single size mat . Generally, the house would have mud floor which are quite uneven and this mat will help to even out surface. Over it spread a thick cotton  bed-sheet , which will be quite comfortable. During summer and raining season, one quilt or sheet can be enough to cover yourself. For pillow……you can fold two or three shirt into fold a

Education leading to a Sexist Society

Telangana has become the first state to make gender education   compulsory at the undergraduate level. This has started the debate on gender inequality in a highly patriarchal society. On August 15, 1947, when India got independence it was considered as freedom for all. But equality between the sexes remains a dream even 70 years after independence. Many women’s movements have fought for women to be given their rights. But most of us have grown up with a patriarchal mindset that has deeply penetrated our society for years and is difficult to eradicate. Education is considered the greatest tool for the cultivation of the human mind. Education aims to empower students to question the pre-existing social norms, cultures, and prejudices. I am in my final year of graduation in social sciences. In my 15 years of being in the Indian education system, I have seen students changing their perspective on politics, equality, equity, development, capitalism and many more things. But surprisi
